I've attached a screenshot of the top of the console so you can see what is wrong.ĮDIT: never mind: I did some editing to the normal GZ Doom-bin folder ini files and added Brutal 64 to there and it worked fine. it seems to want to load the Metal WAD even though I removed that code from the Brutal 64 version of the ini files (GZ Doom was added to the Brutal Doom folder). I got it running but the sound doesn't work. I actually created myself another PK3 that just customises the campaign selection menu to hide the multiplayer. Note that I've not loaded the STAnnouncerPack as the multiplayer doesn't seem to work with GZDoom and it has no bots for botmatch either. Put those files wherever you usually put your mods, and in whatever folder organisation you use. Its the files in the skins folder that you want. Extract the mod files from the provided BD64 Zandronum installation. Korell: The same way you get Brutal Doom working, really, as it is just a mod. The launch GZDoom using the Doom 2 IWAD (doom2.wad) and with the three BD64 mod files loaded in this order: The same way you get Brutal Doom working, really, as it is just a mod. I am asking because I don't use Zandronum and would prefer to use my usual. Now all you need to do is drag MyHouse.pk3 onto the GZDoom icon and voila, the game should launch. Finally, you want to download MyHouse.pk3 from the Google Drive folder provided by Veddge and place it, again, in the root of your GZDoom folder. It uses Zandronum by default but the readme says it can run via GZ Doom. Download this, then put it in the same folder as your GZDoom files. So I got brutal doom v21 to work, but there is no sound.Darkredshift: I posted about this on the "Brutal Doom 64 release imminent" topic but I've posted it here too just in case no-one sees it. The ini file snippet I gave you above is only needed if you want to autoload a mod always. You just need to pass the path to the GZDoom.exe. The error text will be very useful in debugging.Īlso, if you are comfortable with the CLI, you might want to play around with manually passing the CLI startup args to see if there is actually a problem with the desktop shortcut resolving the paths? Something like this (which includes a logfile output):Ĭ:>/path/to/gzdoom.exe -config "path/to/config/gzdoom-vanilla.ini" +logfile log.txt -file /path/to/brutal.pk3Īnd also read the quite extensive comments in the default config file as well. OK so if you drop brutalv21.pk3 onto the desktop icon, it fails to start with an error in the GZDoom console displayed in the GZDoom startup window? That should be loaded automatically by gzdoom. You don't need to manually load gzdoom.pk3. So by loading JUST brutal21.pk3, you will get the normal D2 maps, with the BD effects overlaid. For the gameplay mods, you need to ensure the right loading order, and that is why I set up a GZDoom shortcut that autoloaded it via the ini file - so I could play a pwad with brutal and not worry about the load order.Ģ: create desktop shortcut in normal way (don't recall if GZDoom does this - probably not.)ĭon't forget that the brutal21.pk3 on its own does not have any maps contained within - there is the brutal campaign mapset (forgot the proper name ATM) that does have a bunch of maps. wad onto GZDoom at the same time and it will load both. Suspect not though.Īlso, I just checked with the latest download of BD21 - from the download location ( does NOT need to be the same directory as GZDoom), drag and dropped the PK3 onto my GZ shortcut and the game was started with the BD21 mod. I have done the drag and drop thingy, and before you say anything, I do have some Doom wads: Not sure if you are Windows or Linux - so here are both: I also did a couple of guides a while back that covers how I have my setup. This makes it easier to drop PWADs onto the GZDoom shortcut to play with brutal mod at the same time. # playing a Doom 2 based game (doom2.wad, tnt.wad or plutonia.wad), and files listed under # but files listed under '' will only load when you are # any files listed under 'doom.Autoload' will be loaded for any version of Doom, # (the game) and files that are only loaded for particular IWADs. You may have have files that are loaded for all similar IWADs # Wad files to automatically load depending on the game and IWAD you are
